What is Business Management?
Quick read
- Business management covers strategy, operations, marketing, finance, HR and entrepreneurship.
- It is one of the most widely offered subjects in every destination on our list.
- Pre-experience master's (MSc Management, Master in Management) suit graduates with little work experience.
- Graduate business analyst roles in the UK start around £24,000–£33,000 (Prospects, 2025).
- Internships and placements during the course matter as much as the degree for getting hired.
Business management teaches how organisations are run: setting strategy, managing people and operations, marketing products, controlling budgets and leading change. Courses mix case studies, group projects and often a placement or consultancy project with a real company.
At bachelor's level you study the whole field before choosing options. At master's level you can take a general management degree or specialise in areas such as international business, supply chain, HR or project management.

Study Business Management abroad: FAQs
Can I do a business master's after BTech or BSc?
Yes. Most general management master's accept graduates from any subject. Some specialist courses prefer a business background.
Is a master's in management the same as an MBA?
No. A master's in management is for graduates with little or no experience; an MBA expects several years of work experience.
Which business degree has a placement?
Many UK bachelor's offer a sandwich year in industry, and some master's include a consultancy project or an optional placement. Check the course structure.
Is business management too general?
It is broad by design. Choosing a specialisation, doing internships and building skills such as data analysis or project management makes your profile more focused.
Do I need work experience for a business master's?
Not for most pre-experience master's. Work experience helps for some programmes and is expected for an MBA.
