Online Degrees you can fit around work

Compare online Bachelors and Masters programmes from nine Indian universities by fee, duration and specialisation. We'll also show you how to check a programme's UGC-DEB status before you pay.

Recognition, explained

A degree from a UGC-entitled online programme is generally treated like its on-campus equivalent, but only if the programme and session are covered. Employers, licensing bodies and foreign universities may have their own rules.

Step-by-step guide to checking UGC-DEB status

Check recognition before you enrol

Online degrees are regulated by the University Grants Commission. Approval is given for a specific programme and academic session, so check that the exact programme you want appears for the session you are joining.

  1. Open the UGC-DEB website and find the list of institutions entitled to offer online programmes.
  2. Confirm the university, the programme and the academic session.
  3. Check the university's own approvals page and keep a copy for your records.
  4. If you need the degree for a government job, licence or further study abroad, check that body's rules too.

Online degree questions

Are online degrees equivalent to regular degrees?

Under the UGC (Open and Distance Learning Programmes and Online Programmes) Regulations, 2020, degrees from online programmes offered by UGC-recognised or entitled institutions are to be treated as equivalent to the corresponding degrees in conventional mode. This depends on the programme being entitled for your academic session, so check the listing on deb.ugc.ac.in before you enrol.

How do I check if an online programme is UGC-entitled?

Visit the UGC-DEB website at deb.ugc.ac.in and check that the university and your exact programme are listed for online mode in the academic session you plan to join. Then compare this with the approvals published on the university’s own website.

Which universities can you help me compare?

We help learners compare online programmes from universities including LPU, Manipal, Chandigarh University, Jain, NMIMS, Shoolini, Parul, O.P. Jindal and Amity. We are independent counsellors and do not represent any university.

Does counselling for online degrees cost anything?

Your first counselling session is free. You can book it using the “Book Free Counselling” option on this website.

Will an employer or another university accept my online degree?

Acceptance is decided by each employer, university or professional body, and requirements can differ. If you have a specific goal in mind, such as a government job or further study abroad, check their requirements before you enrol.

Can I study an online degree while working full-time?

Yes. Online programmes are designed for working learners, with recorded lectures, live weekend sessions at many universities, and online exams. Check each university's class and exam schedule before you enrol.

How are exams conducted for online degrees?

Most universities hold proctored online exams that you take from home. The format and schedule differ by university, so we show them on each university's page.

Can I pay the fee in instalments or EMI?

Many universities let you pay by semester or year, and some offer EMI through finance partners. The options and any extra charges are set by the university, so confirm them in writing before paying.

Which online programme should I choose, MBA or something else?

Start with your career goal and your current qualification. We compare programmes, specialisations and fees across universities so you can pick the one that fits, and the Mantra Degree Finder lets you do the same yourself.

Do online degrees have placement support?

Some universities offer career services or placement assistance for online learners. What is offered varies, so read the university's own description and do not treat placement as guaranteed.
