Intakes in Lithuania at a glance
Quick read
- Lithuania's main intake is September; a few programmes also start in February.
- Applications for September usually open in the autumn of the year before: Kaunas University of Technology opened on 15 October 2025 and closed on 1 June 2026 for the 2026 intake.
- Scholarship deadlines are earlier, often in April: Vilnius University's master's fee waiver closed on 1 April 2026 and VILNIUS TECH's scholarships on 20 April 2026.
- Full-time students need a temporary residence permit, applied for online in MIGRIS and completed at VFS Global in India. Allow two months or more.
- Your university issues a mediation letter, usually after you pay the first tuition instalment, before you can apply for the permit.
Lithuanian universities admit most international students for the autumn semester in September. Applications open early, often in October or November of the previous year, and close in late spring or early summer. Applying early matters more than in many countries, because scholarships and fee waivers close in April.
Since July 2023, full-time students no longer receive national D visas. Instead, you apply for a temporary residence permit, which takes time, so plan to finish admission by spring.
