About the university
VILNIUS TECH is Lithuania's main technical university. It grew out of an evening branch of Kaunas Polytechnic Institute opened in Vilnius in 1956, became the Vilnius Civil Engineering Institute in 1969 and took the name Vilnius Gediminas Technical University in 1996. Its faculties cover civil engineering, mechanics, electronics, environmental engineering, transport, architecture, business management, fundamental sciences, creative industries and aviation, and since 2022 it has also run the Lithuanian Maritime Academy in Klaipėda.
The university calls itself the most international in Lithuania: about a quarter of its students come from abroad, and more than half its programmes are taught in English. It is strongest in civil and structural engineering, mechanical and automotive engineering, IT and electronics. The Antanas Gustaitis Aviation Institute trains pilots and aviation engineers, and the university is part of the European University Alliance ENHANCE with technical universities in Germany, Poland, Spain, Italy and Norway.
Almost all teaching happens on the Saulėtekis campus in the east of Vilnius, next to Vilnius University's science campus and the Sunrise Valley tech park, with dormitories within walking distance. The Faculty of Architecture and some offices are in the Old Town, the aviation institute is near Vilnius airport, and maritime programmes are taught in Klaipėda on the Baltic coast.
For Indian students VILNIUS TECH stands out for its low fees (€4,950 a year for most engineering and IT bachelor's, €6,450 for engineering master's), a relatively modest English requirement (IELTS 5.5) and a later deadline (15 June) than many Lithuanian universities. Indian applicants need 60% in the relevant subjects, and master's applicants from India must hold a B.Tech or B.E. Applicants record a short video interview in the application system, and the university refunds tuition if the residence permit is refused.

Careers and graduate outcomes
Engineering and IT graduates are in demand in Lithuania, and Vilnius has most of the country's English-speaking tech and engineering employers. Students can work without a separate permit and graduates can stay up to about 15 months to look for a job. Many non-IT jobs expect Lithuanian, so take the free language classes. The university does not publish outcomes for international graduates, so the figures below are national.
