Overview
Tashkent State Medical University (TSMU) is the largest state medical university in Uzbekistan's capital. It was created on 22 April 2025 by merging the Tashkent Medical Academy, the Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute and the Tashkent State Dental Institute. Its roots go back to the medical faculty of Turkestan State University, founded in 1920. The main campus is on Farobiy Street in Tashkent.
International students apply for the English-medium programme through an online interview, and pay fees only into the university's official account. After the merger, admissions for foreign students reopened in late August 2025. THE's 2027 data list about 10,830 students, 20% of them international.
Two NMC warnings matter here. On 21 July 2025 the NMC told Indian students not to take admission to the Chirchik branch of TSMU. On 1 April 2026 it issued an advisory naming the university itself, and citing complaints about its Termez branch and an offshore 'campus' in Bengaluru. The Embassy of India has said the April advisory is precautionary, not a ban. Make sure you join the main Tashkent campus, not a branch.

FAQs
Is Tashkent State Medical University banned by the NMC?
No. The NMC's advisory of 1 April 2026 names the university and raises concerns, but the Embassy of India has said it is precautionary, not a ban. The Chirchik branch is different: the NMC told students not to take admission there in July 2025. Check nmc.org.in before you apply.
Which campus should I join?
The main Tashkent campus. Avoid the Chirchik branch, which is on an NMC alert, and the Termez branch and the Bengaluru 'offshore campus' cited in the April 2026 advisory. Training in India does not count towards a foreign degree under NMC rules.
Is this the same as Tashkent Medical Academy?
Yes, in part. Tashkent Medical Academy was merged with the Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute and the Tashkent State Dental Institute to form TSMU on 22 April 2025. Check which name will appear on your degree.
How much are the fees?
The university does not publish its international fee. Careers360 reported USD 4,500 for the first year and USD 3,500 a year after that, with about USD 600 for the hostel. Get the official fee letter, and pay only into the university's account.
How does admission work?
You send your documents, take an online Zoom interview with an official interviewer, get a provisional letter, pay the first-semester fee within seven days, and then receive the visa invitation for an A-1 student visa.
What are the FMGE results like?
Summaries of NBEMS data give 43.0% (95 of 221) for Tashkent Medical Academy graduates across the 2025 sessions. These are secondary figures, so check NBEMS's own institute-wise report.
