Overview

Andijan State Medical Institute (ASMI) is a state medical institute in Andijan, in Uzbekistan's Fergana Valley. It was founded in 1955 and was the first higher education institution in the valley. Today it has faculties of Medicine, Pediatrics, Dentistry and Pharmacy, and a faculty for doctors' postgraduate training.

The QS profile of the institute lists about 10,890 students, of whom 982 are international. Two hostels for international students opened in 2022. The English-medium General Medicine programme was accredited by ECAQA in December 2024, valid until December 2029.

Andijan is not among the universities named in the NMC advisory of 1 April 2026. That is not an approval. Each student must still meet every NMC FMGL condition, and the institute's English pages for foreign applicants are limited, so ask for the fees, the teaching language and the internship arrangement in writing.

Why choose Andijan State Medical Institute?

  • It is a long-established state institute, not a private college or a branch campus.
  • Its English-medium General Medicine programme holds ECAQA accreditation, listed on the European DEQAR database.
  • It is not named in the NMC's April 2026 advisory on Uzbek institutions.
  • Andijan is one of the cheaper Uzbek cities to live in.
  • International students have dedicated hostels opened in 2022.

Eligibility criteria

  • Qualify NEET-UG before admission. The institute does not ask for it, but the NMC does.
  • Pass Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English, with at least 50% in PCB (40% for SC/ST/OBC, 45% for PwD).
  • Be at least 17 years old by 31 December of the year of admission.
  • Pass the institute's own admission test or interview for foreign applicants.
  • Provide a medical certificate (Form 086) and the health tests the institute asks for.

Admission process

  1. Check nmc.org.in for any notice about Andijan, and read the FMGL Regulations, 2021.
  2. Contact the institute's international department directly; its foreign-student page was not working when we checked.
  3. Ask in writing for the fee schedule for all six years, the teaching language for each year and how the internship is organised.
  4. Send your application, passport, Class 10 and 12 documents, NEET scorecard and medical certificate.
  5. Take the admission test or interview.
  6. Sign the contract and pay only into the institute's official account.
  7. Receive the visa invitation through the institute and apply for the A-1 study visa.
  8. Travel, register your stay through the institute and register with the Embassy of India.

Fee structure

Fee structure
Tuition (USD)Hostel (USD)Approx. in rupees
Each year (Years 1–6)Careers360, June 2026; first year adds about USD 1,700 of charges. Physics Wallah quotes USD 7,000 (year 1) and USD 4,450 (later years) including hostelUS$3,500US$600≈ ₹3.8 lakh
Estimated total (6 years)US$24,600≈ ₹22.6 lakh

The institute does not publish fees for foreign students on its website, so these figures are from secondary sources, which disagree. Careers360 (June 2026) gives USD 3,500 a year, about USD 1,700 of extra first-year charges and USD 600 for the hostel. Physics Wallah (June 2026) gives USD 7,000 for the first year and USD 4,450 a year after that, with the hostel included. QS says international tuition starts from USD 3,500. Expect roughly USD 3,500–4,450 a year plus hostel, and a higher first-year bill. Get the institute's own fee letter before you pay. Approximate exchange rates (based on ECB reference rates, March 2026). Actual rates on your payment date will differ.

Recognition and accreditation

  • World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS)Not confirmed by us. We could not run a WDOMS search from our network, so check the Andijan State Medical Institute entry at search.wdoms.org before you apply.
  • Government of UzbekistanA state medical institute founded in 1955. Its official website still uses the name Andijan State Medical Institute.
  • ECAQA (Eurasian Centre for Accreditation and Quality Assurance)General Medicine (English medium) accredited on 2 December 2024, valid to 1 December 2029, as listed on DEQAR.
  • National Medical Commission (NMC), IndiaThe NMC does not approve foreign universities. Andijan is not named in the advisory of 1 April 2026, which covers Bukhara, Samarkand and Tashkent. Each graduate must still meet every FMGL 2021 condition.

NMC eligibility depends on you, not only the university

Under the NMC's 2021 regulations your course must last at least 54 months, include a 12-month internship at the same institution, be taught in English and lead to a licence to practise in that country. Check each condition for your intake before you pay. NMC rules for Uzbekistan

Teaching hospitals

  • Andijan State Medical Institute clinic
  • Andijan regional and city hospitals used as clinical bases (ask for the list for your year)

Hostel and campus life

International students live in the two hostels for foreign students that opened in 2022, alongside older dormitories. Andijan is a busy regional city but smaller than Tashkent, and day-to-day costs are low. Indian students usually cook for themselves or use a mess, so ask the institute what food arrangements exist in your hostel. The Fergana Valley lies close to the borders with Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, so carry your passport and never cross a border area by mistake.

About Andijan

Andijan is the main city of the Andijan Region in the eastern Fergana Valley, near the border with Kyrgyzstan. It is the birthplace of Babur, the founder of the Mughal Empire, which gives it a special link with India. The city has parks, a historic Jome mosque complex and busy bazaars. It is reached from Tashkent by train, road or a short domestic flight. Summers are hot and winters are cold, and living costs are lower than in Tashkent.

Ranking

Andijan State Medical Institute is not ranked in the QS World University Rankings or the THE World University Rankings. THE's Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026 place it in the 1001–1500 band. These ratings measure social impact, not teaching quality.

Scholarships

Foreign students study on a paid contract, and the institute does not publish scholarships for self-funded international medical students. Treat agent 'scholarships' with care, and ask the institute directly.
