Overview
The Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University named after B.N. Yeltsin (KRSU) is a state university in Bishkek founded by Kyrgyzstan and Russia under an agreement signed in 1992. Its Medical Faculty was founded on 15 June 1994 and now has 38 departments. Graduates receive both a Kyrgyz and a Russian diploma, according to the university.
KRSU was exempt from the 2026 state accreditation of Kyrgyz medical universities, according to the Embassy of India's advisory of 8 June 2026. It is one of five Kyrgyz universities in the QS World University Rankings 2026. In June 2025 its Medical Faculty held a graduation ceremony for about 67 Indian doctors after six years of study.
KRSU is mainly a Russian-medium university. WDOMS lists Russian as the language of its medical programmes, its admission page asks non-CIS applicants for a Russian-language course certificate, and most foreign students start with a one-year preparatory course. KRSU says Indian students have studied in English since 2015. India's NMC rules need the whole course in English, at least 54 months of study and a 12-month internship at the same university, so get the medium of every year and the internship arrangement in writing before you apply.

Fee structure
| Tuition (USD) | Hostel (USD) | Approx. in rupees | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Each year (6 years)Both figures are estimates. KRSU does not publish a foreign-student medical fee, and it has no dormitory; the second figure is for a shared flat. | US$5,000 | US$1,800 | ≈ ₹6.3 lakh |
| Estimated total (6 years) | US$40,800 | ≈ ₹37.5 lakh | |
KRSU does not publish its medical fee for foreign students online. Its paid-services page lists fee orders by title only, without figures, as of October 2026. The tuition shown is the indicative figure in our records, not an official fee; the Kyrgyz Ministry of Health has said the minimum for foreign medical students is USD 3,000 a year (Embassy of India advisory, 29 April 2026). A preparatory year, if required, is charged separately. KRSU said in June 2023 that it had no dormitories, so plan for a private flat at roughly USD 150–300 a month per person. Ask KRSU for an official fee order or a signed year-by-year schedule before you pay. Approximate exchange rates (based on ECB reference rates, March 2026). Actual rates on your payment date will differ.

Hostel and campus life
KRSU reported in June 2023 that it had no student dormitories, though Russia had set aside funds to start providing accommodation. Most foreign students therefore rent shared flats in Bishkek, often near the Alamedin-1 teaching buildings. Ask the university whether any housing is now offered before you travel. The student body is mostly Kyrgyz, Russian and from other CIS countries, so Indian students mix more with local students than at universities built around foreign intakes. Indian messes and groceries are available in Bishkek. Good Russian makes daily life and hospital work much easier.

About Bishkek
Bishkek is the capital and largest city of Kyrgyzstan. It lies at the foot of the Kyrgyz Ala-Too range of the Tian Shan mountains, with wide tree-lined streets, parks and Soviet-era buildings. Summers are hot and dry; winters are cold and snowy, and winter air pollution can be bad. Russian is widely spoken, alongside Kyrgyz. The city has the country's national hospitals, the Embassy of India and Manas International Airport, with direct and connecting flights to Delhi. Weekend trips to Ala-Archa National Park and Lake Issyk-Kul are popular.
Ranking
KRSU is ranked 1001–1200 in the QS World University Rankings 2026, its second year in the ranking, and is one of five Kyrgyz universities in that edition (KRSU news, 19 June 2025). This is a whole-university ranking, not a ranking of the Medical Faculty.
Scholarships
Funded places at KRSU are mainly for citizens of Kyrgyzstan and Russia. We found no published scholarship for Indian medical students. Ask KRSU directly about any discount or instalment plan and get it in writing. Some Indian state governments and charitable trusts support students from low-income families; check with your state's welfare department.

FAQs
Is KRSU accredited after the 2026 reforms?
KRSU was exempt from the 2026 state accreditation, according to the Embassy of India's advisory of 8 June 2026, along with KSMA and Manas University.
Is the KRSU course taught in English?
KRSU says Indian students began studying in English in 2015, but WDOMS lists its medical programmes as taught in Russian, and most foreign students first do a one-year preparatory course. The NMC needs the whole course in English. Get written confirmation that your group is taught in English in every year.
Does the preparatory year count towards the course?
No. A preparatory or language year is not part of the 54 months of medical study the NMC requires. You still need at least 54 months of study and a 12-month internship at KRSU after it.
What does KRSU cost?
KRSU does not publish its foreign-student medical fee online. Our records use about USD 5,000 a year as an estimate, and the state minimum is USD 3,000. There is no university hostel, so budget about USD 150–300 a month for a shared flat.
Is KRSU 'NMC approved'?
The NMC does not approve foreign universities. A KRSU graduate can register in India only if their own course meets the FMGL Regulations 2021 and they pass the licensing exam.
Have Indian students graduated from KRSU?
Yes. KRSU held a graduation ceremony on 21 June 2025 for about 67 doctors from India who had studied for six years.
