About the university

The University of West London traces its roots to the Lady Byron School, founded in Ealing in 1860. It became Thames Valley University in 1992 and took its current name in 2011. Its main site is on St Mary's Road in Ealing, with further sites in Brentford and Reading.

UWL is known for career-focused teaching in hospitality, aviation, music, nursing, computing and business. It won a Queen's Anniversary Prize for hospitality education in 2009, and the university says it ranked second among London universities for overall student satisfaction in the National Student Survey 2026.

For Indian students, UWL offers some of the lower master's fees in London: most one-year master's courses cost £17,750 for a September 2027 start. Many courses also run with a placement year or as Extended Master's routes for students who need more preparation, and an early-payment bursary can take £3,500 off a master's fee.

Ealing is a green, residential part of West London, with central London a few stops away on the Tube and Heathrow Airport to the west. As a London university, students need to budget for London living costs.
