About the university

The University of Salford grew out of the Royal Technical Institute, which opened in 1896, and became a university when it received its Royal Charter on 10 February 1967. It has kept a strong link with industry and practical, technology-focused teaching.

Salford is known for computing, data science, engineering, the built environment, health and media, with a campus at MediaCity for media and digital courses. MSc Data Science was one of the UK's first data science conversion courses and is accredited by BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT.

For Indian students the main attractions are moderate fees (most business master's are £17,460 for 2027/28), several start dates, and automatic Global Excellence scholarships of £2,500 or £3,000 for master's students. The university asks for 55% (5.8 CGPA) in a three- or four-year bachelor's degree.

Salford is part of Greater Manchester. The university says the area is relatively budget-friendly, with some of the cheapest public transport in the UK, and has a large South Asian community.
