About the university
The University of Leeds grew out of the Yorkshire College of Science, founded in 1874, and became an independent university by Royal Charter in 1904. It is one of the UK's largest universities and a member of the Russell Group of research-intensive universities.
Its single campus sits on the edge of Leeds city centre, mixing Victorian buildings such as the Great Hall with modern teaching spaces. Leeds University Business School, the School of Computing and the engineering faculty are all on the main campus, so most students walk to every class.
Indian students most often choose Leeds for data science and computing, finance, management and engineering master's courses. One-year master's fees are charged as a single total, mostly between £33,000 and £37,000, which is lower than at several other large Russell Group universities. Many courses ask for IELTS 6.5 with 6.0 in each skill.
Leeds is a lively student city in West Yorkshire, about two hours from London by train, with a large South Asian community and good rail links to Manchester and the north. The Students' Union is one of the biggest in the country and runs Indian and other cultural societies.
