About the university

University College Birmingham (UCB) is a full university in the centre of Birmingham, despite the word "College" in its name. It began with cookery and technical classes in Victorian Birmingham, became the Birmingham College of Food, gained taught degree-awarding powers in 2007 and full university status in 2012. It is best known for hospitality, tourism, culinary arts, aviation and events management, and also teaches business, computing, health, nursing, sport and engineering.

Indian students look at UCB for career-focused courses, lower fees than many UK universities and a February intake as well as September. Most one-year and 18-month master's courses on this page cost £18,000 for 2027/28, and UCB says an international student's first-year fee is held for the rest of the course. UCB has an India Office that helps applicants.

UCB's main buildings are in Birmingham city centre, and its halls at The Maltings are about 15 minutes' walk from the Summer Row campus. The university also offers an International Foundation Diploma and pre-sessional English courses for students who need them before a degree.
