About the university

Solent University traces its origins to a private School of Art founded in Southampton in 1855. After mergers between local colleges of art, technology and nautical studies, it became an independent institution in 1989 and a university in 2005.

Solent is known for practical, career-focused courses and for maritime education: it runs well-known shipping, logistics and maritime business master's courses alongside business, computing and media degrees.

For Indian students the attraction is a single published master's fee of £18,350 a year, January as well as September starts on many master's courses, and acceptance of Duolingo as well as IELTS. Solent alumni get 20% off a later postgraduate course.

Southampton is a port city on England's south coast, with lower living costs than London.
