About the university
The Royal College of Art (RCA) was founded in 1837 as the Government School of Design and received a Royal Charter and university status in 1967. It teaches only postgraduates, in art, design, architecture and communication, from campuses in Kensington and Battersea in London. The RCA's homepage says it has been ranked first in the world for Art & Design in the QS Rankings by Subject for 12 years running.
Indian students look at the RCA for its design programmes, such as Innovation Design Engineering (a double master's with Imperial College London), Service Design, Design Products and Intelligent Mobility Design. Fees are high: most one-year MAs cost £40,200 to £43,000 for Overseas students starting in September 2027, and the college has no halls of its own. Entry is by portfolio, a 300-word personal statement and a two-minute video.
