About the university

Manchester Metropolitan University (Manchester Met) is a large public university in Manchester with about 35,000 students. It traces its roots to the Manchester Mechanics' Institute of 1824 and became a university in 1992, when Manchester Polytechnic gained university status.

It teaches a wide range of subjects, from business, computing and engineering to art and design, health and law, and appears in THE subject rankings for computer science, engineering, law and business. Its Business School teaches many of the master's courses that Indian students choose, and a number of these start in January as well as September.

For Indian students the main points are clear fees and automatic scholarships. For 2027/28 international master's fees range from £21,000 to £22,500 a year, and most taught master's students are considered for a £5,000 scholarship with no separate application. The university accepts CBSE and ISC Class 12 English at 70% in place of an English test.

Manchester is a large city in the north-west of England with several universities. Living costs are lower than in London: the Student visa money requirement outside London is £1,171 a month, against £1,529 in London.
