About the university

Loughborough University dates from 1909 and is a public university in the town of Loughborough in the English Midlands. It also runs a postgraduate-only campus in London.

It is best known for sport, where it has been ranked first in the world for sports-related subjects in the QS subject rankings every year from 2017 to 2026, and for engineering, design, business and computing. The England Cricket Board's National Cricket Performance Centre sits in the middle of the campus.

For Indian students, Loughborough offers a top-10 UK university with clear Indian entry rules. Graduates of NIRF-listed institutions need 50% for a 2:2 and 55% for a 2:1; graduates of other Indian institutions need 57% and 62%. It has research links with IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras and Anna University, and international master's students with a first-class degree get £6,000 off automatically.

Loughborough is a market town, and student life centres on the campus, which has its own halls, sports facilities and students' union.

Admission requirements

Undergraduate

  • CBSE, ISC and West Bengal boards: typically 78% to 88% average in the best four subjects. Other state boards: typically 83% to 93%.
  • Some courses ask for specific marks in Class 10 or Class 12 subjects; check the course page.
  • The one-year International Foundation Programme gives guaranteed progression to Loughborough degrees if you pass.
  • Apply through UCAS.

Postgraduate

  • From NIRF-listed Indian institutions: 50% for a 2:2, 55% for a 2:1 and 61% for a first.
  • From all other Indian institutions: 57% for a 2:2, 62% for a 2:1 and 68% for a first.
  • Most master's courses on this page ask for a 2:2; some engineering and sport courses ask for a 2:1. The Data Science MSc is for graduates of any subject except computer science.
  • An International Pre-Master's programme is available if you do not meet direct-entry requirements.

Accommodation and living costs

Loughborough has many halls on or beside the campus, catered and self-catered, with furnished rooms and bills included. Postgraduates can reserve rooms from February, including with a conditional offer, in selected halls with 50-week contracts (until early August). If you do not have a UK guarantor, the Housing Hand guarantor service can be used. Prices below are 'from' rates on the halls page for 2026/27.

The Loughborough campus brings teaching buildings, halls, sports facilities and the students' union together on one site.

How much is a master's at Loughborough?

For 2027/28, business, management and finance master's courses are mostly £27,000, and computing, data, AI and engineering courses £31,750. The full-time MBA is £34,000.

What percentage do I need from India?

For a 2:2, 50% from an NIRF-listed institution or 57% from other Indian institutions. For a 2:1, 55% (NIRF) or 62% (others).

Can I use Class 12 English instead of IELTS?

Usually, yes, with 75% in CBSE or ISC English, or 80% from listed state boards. It is not accepted from the Gujarat, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab or Telangana boards.

Is there a January intake?

Most Loughborough campus courses start in September only. Some London campus courses, such as International Business Management MSc, also start in January.

Are there scholarships for Indian students?

International master's students with a first-class degree get £6,000 off automatically, and a £10,000 Future Leaders Scholarship is open to international applicants for September 2027 (deadline 3 May 2027).
