About the university

Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) traces its roots to the Liverpool Mechanics and Apprentices Library of 1823. It became a university in 1992 and is named after Sir John Moores, the Liverpool businessman who founded Littlewoods.

LJMU is one of the larger universities in the north-west of England, with city-centre campuses in Liverpool. It is known for sport and exercise science, astrophysics, maritime studies, pharmacy, engineering and business.

For Indian students the attraction is a clear fee structure (£17,250 or £18,740 a year for most master's courses in 2027/28) and a £4,000 regional scholarship for Indian postgraduates, applied automatically. Some master's courses also start in January.

Liverpool is a port city with a lower cost of living than London, a large student population and good rail links to Manchester (under an hour) and London.
