About the university
Edinburgh Napier University opened in 1964 as Napier Technical College at Merchiston, named after the mathematician John Napier, who was born in Merchiston Tower. It became a university in 1992 and took its current name in 2009.
The university is strong in computing, cyber security, engineering, business and health. It says it is the top modern university in Scotland in the THE World University Rankings 2027 and the Sunday Times Good University Guide 2027, and it was the first UK university to have both undergraduate and postgraduate courses certified by the National Cyber Security Centre.
For Indian students the main draws are Edinburgh itself, several master's start dates (January, May and September on many courses) and a South Asia Scholarship worth £3,000 for one-year master's courses. The university has a South Asia office in Hyderabad.
Edinburgh is Scotland's capital, a historic city where all three campuses are easy to reach by public transport. Scottish bachelor's degrees normally take four years, although strong Class 12 results can give entry to Year 2.
