About the university
Bangor University was founded in 1884 in the small city of Bangor in North Wales, between the mountains of Eryri (Snowdonia) and the Menai Strait. It is a public university with about 8,700 students, around a third of them from outside the UK.
Bangor is known for ocean sciences, environmental science and forestry, psychology, and its business school's banking and finance courses, which include a Chartered Banker route. Class sizes are small, and 85% of its research was rated world-leading or internationally excellent in REF 2021.
For Indian students, Bangor's appeal is its cost. Most business, computing and data master's courses are £19,000 to £20,500 a year before scholarships, every international student is considered for at least £4,000 off, and North Wales is one of the cheaper places to live in the UK. The India page also accepts 65% in Class 12 English in place of IELTS for most boards.
Bangor is a quiet, safe student city where much of life revolves around the university. It suits students who want the outdoors, the sea and a close community more than big-city life.
