About the university

Aberystwyth University opened in 1872 as the first university college in Wales. Its main campus at Penglais looks over Cardigan Bay, with the Cambrian Mountains behind it. Students have access to one of the five copyright libraries in Britain.

The university teaches computer science and AI, business and management, law and criminology, international politics, life sciences, geography and physics. It is a mid-sized, close-knit place with about 6,300 students.

For Indian students the big draw is the support package. Eligible new international students get a Global Citizens Scholarship of £3,000 to £4,500 a year off tuition and can also get free university accommodation for the first year (the full 50-week year for one-year master's students), subject to availability.

Aberystwyth is a small seaside university town in mid-Wales. Living costs are lower than in big UK cities, and university halls start at about £124 a week in 2026/27.
