About the university
Massey University began in 1927 as an agricultural college in Palmerston North and became a full university in 1964. It is ranked 215th in the world by QS and in the 501–550 band by Times Higher Education in 2027. Its agricultural roots still show: Massey runs New Zealand's only veterinary school and is known for agriculture, food technology and the life sciences.
Massey has three campuses. Manawatū in Palmerston North is the original campus, with veterinary science, agriculture, aviation and food technology. The Auckland campus at Albany, on the North Shore, focuses on business, IT, construction and sciences, and the Wellington campus is known for the College of Creative Arts, design and nursing. Massey is also New Zealand's largest provider of distance learning.
Massey's School of Aviation is one of the few university programmes in the region that trains commercial pilots, which is why its Bachelor of Aviation costs much more than other degrees. Its business school offers master's degrees in analytics, management and the MBA, and its design programmes are well regarded.
For Indian students, Massey's Auckland campus is popular for business, IT and construction programmes, while Palmerston North offers a quieter and cheaper student city. Fees for most bachelor's degrees in 2027 are about NZ$39,000–47,000 a year.
