About the university
Auckland University of Technology became New Zealand's newest university in 2000, but its history goes back to the Auckland Technical School founded in 1895. It focuses on applied, career-oriented study in business, computer and information sciences, engineering, health, design, hospitality and communications, with strong links to industry in Auckland.
AUT's main City campus is in central Auckland, a few minutes' walk from Queen Street and the university's student accommodation. The North campus in Northcote focuses on health sciences, and the South campus in Manukau serves South Auckland. The university is ranked in the 551–600 band by Times Higher Education in 2027.
Almost half of AUT's students are international, and many come from India for its master's degrees in computer and information sciences, analytics, cyber security, engineering, construction management and business. Many programmes include industry projects or work placements.
Auckland is New Zealand's largest city and home to its biggest Indian community, which helps with part-time work and settling in, though it is also the country's most expensive city. AUT's fees are generally a little lower than the University of Auckland's.
