About the university

Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas), formerly NHTV, is a specialist institution in the south of the Netherlands. It teaches more than 7,000 students from some 100 countries on one green, compact campus in Breda, and most of its programmes are taught in English.

BUas is unusual because it focuses on a few fields rather than offering everything: tourism, leisure and events, hotel and facility management, logistics and the built environment, media and creative business, games, and data science and AI. Its games programme, Creative Media and Game Technologies, and its hotel management programme are its best-known courses.

Indian students look at BUas for hospitality, tourism, logistics, game development and applied data science and AI, all taught in practical, project-based ways. Several popular programmes have a cap on places and a selection procedure, so applying early matters.

Breda is a mid-sized city in the south of the Netherlands. BUas puts student rooms there at about €500–€800 a month, and they fill up fast.

    Admission requirements

    Undergraduate

    • A school diploma equivalent to Dutch HAVO or VWO. BUas checks foreign diplomas against its list of comparable diplomas and may ask Nuffic; if yours is not listed, BUas advises applying anyway.
    • A diploma comparable to VWO can give access to the 3-year track of some programmes.
    • Selective programmes (Applied Data Science & AI, Creative Media and Game Technologies, Hotel Management) cap places and use a portfolio task or online assessment plus an interview. Data Science & AI also has an untimed basic maths test.
    • Apply through Studielink. The strict deadline for non-EU applicants is 1 May.

    Postgraduate

    • A relevant bachelor's degree. Master Supply Chain Management wants logistics in your degree (major, minor, project or placement); Master Game Technology wants a game-development related degree and a portfolio task plus interview.
    • Master's pages list 15 August as the closing date, but BUas's general rule is a strict 1 May deadline for non-EU applicants. Apply by then.

    Documents

    • Passport
    • Class 12 certificate and mark sheets (bachelor's) or bachelor's degree and transcripts (master's)
    • English test result from an official test centre
    • Portfolio, intake assessment or motivation material for selective programmes
    • Tuition fee payment (possible from May) to make enrolment final

    Accommodation and living costs

BUas has no student rooms of its own. For 2027/28 it has an arrangement with housing providers Alwel and WonenBreburg for 71 furnished rooms for non-EU degree students, allocated first come, first served, with fixed contract dates and an age limit of 27. Accepted students get a booking login in the first week of July. Otherwise you search yourself through Facebook groups, Klikvoorkamers or agencies; a housing buddy can view rooms for you.
