About the university
Daugavpils University (DU) was founded in 1921 as a teacher-training institution and still keeps a strong tradition in education. It is a state university with over 2,800 students and nearly 50 study programmes, and describes itself as the largest regional state university in Latvia.
DU has two faculties, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences and Healthcare, plus research institutes in life sciences and in humanities and social sciences. It is a member of the European University Association and the European Association for International Education.
For Indian students, DU is one of the cheapest options in the EU: English-taught bachelor's cost €3,000 a year and master's €3,300 a year for non-EU students in 2026/27, and dormitory beds start well under €100 a month. The English-taught offer is small, focused on business and economics, biology, languages and education.
The university is based in the city of Daugavpils, with its main building at Vienības street 13 and three dormitories on Sporta and Parādes streets.
