About the university

UCLan Cyprus opened in 2012 as the Cyprus campus of the University of Central Lancashire, a large public university based in Preston, England. It was the first British university to set up a campus on the island. Students follow UK-designed courses taught in English and graduate with a dual award: one degree certificate from UCLan in the UK and one from UCLan Cyprus, which is licensed as a private university in the Republic of Cyprus.

The campus is smaller and more personal than a typical UK university, with four schools: Business and Law; Computing, Engineering and Mathematics; Health and Wellbeing; and Arts, Media and Communication. Notable facilities include an electronic engineering lab, psychology labs with a child observation suite, a sport science lab and the first moot courtroom at a Cypriot university. The BSc Computing degree is accredited by the British Computer Society.

The campus is in Pyla, a quiet seaside village east of Larnaca, about 20 minutes by bus from the centre of Larnaca. Larnaca is the island's third-largest city, cheaper than Limassol and Nicosia for rent, with beaches, a promenade and bus links to the rest of Cyprus. There is student housing on campus with a pool.

For Indian students, UCLan Cyprus offers a British degree at a fraction of UK fees: €9,000 a year for a bachelor's and €9,500 in total for most one-year master's degrees in 2026–27. The things to weigh up are the large €5,000 deposit for non-EU students, the small size of the local job market, and Cyprus's rule that only master's and doctoral graduates can stay up to 12 months after graduating to look for work.

Admission requirements

Undergraduate

  • Class 12 (high school leaving certificate). Some courses ask for specific subjects, such as maths for engineering or computing.
  • English: IELTS 5.5 or an equivalent CEFR level for most bachelor's courses. If you are below this, the one-year English Language Foundation Programme (€6,500 after bursary) can lead to a degree.
  • Apply online with the €50 application fee. After your offer, non-EU students pay a €5,000 deposit, which counts towards the first year's fees.
  • Intakes are in September and January; leave at least two to three months for the Cyprus entry permit.

Postgraduate

  • A bachelor's degree with at least a lower second class (2:2) or equivalent. In Indian terms, this is usually around 50–55%; the university assesses each transcript.
  • English: IELTS 6.5 or an equivalent CEFR level.
  • Some programmes, such as the MBA, may ask for work experience or an interview.
  • Most master's degrees start in September and take one year full time; the MBA with work placement and some others have an optional second year with a separate fee.

Documents

  • Valid passport
  • Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets and certificates
  • Bachelor's transcripts and degree certificate (for master's applications)
  • English test score (IELTS or equivalent)
  • Personal statement
  • Two references (academic or professional)

Master's and PhD graduates can apply to stay for up to 12 months to look for work or start a business. Bachelor's graduates need a job offer with a work permit to stay.
