About the university

York University was founded in 1959 and has grown into one of Canada's largest universities, with more than 50,000 students across its campuses in Toronto and Markham. It is known for its Schulich School of Business, one of Canada's leading business schools, for Osgoode Hall Law School, and for social sciences, fine arts and the Lassonde School of Engineering.

The main Keele Campus in north Toronto is a large, self-contained campus with its own subway stations on Line 1, so downtown Toronto is about 40 minutes away by train. Glendon Campus in midtown offers bilingual (English and French) programmes, and the Markham Campus, opened in 2024, focuses on technology, business and entrepreneurship programmes.

For Indian students York is attractive because its undergraduate tuition is lower than the University of Toronto's, while still offering a Toronto location and access to the Greater Toronto Area job market. In 2026-27 York estimates about CAD 38,000 a year for Computer Science, CAD 40,000 for most arts and science programmes, CAD 40,000–44,000 for business and CAD 47,000 for first-year Engineering.

Schulich's specialised master's degrees (business analytics, artificial intelligence management, finance, supply chain and others) are also popular with Indian graduates; check the Schulich website for their current fees, which are considerably higher than undergraduate tuition.
