About the university

The University of King's College is a small university in Halifax, Nova Scotia, that calls itself Canada's oldest chartered university. It has about 1,000 students and is academically intertwined with Dalhousie University next door, so students can draw on more than 2,500 courses and 60-plus degree options. It is known for its Foundation Year Program, an intensive great-books first year, and for its School of Journalism, Writing & Publishing.

Indian students consider King's for humanities, journalism and music, not for business, computing or engineering. From September 2027 the four-year Bachelor of Journalism and Media (Honours), with a required media internship, replaces the current journalism honours degree. International undergraduate tuition is CAD 37,992 a year for 2026/27, but an International Mobility Award of up to CAD 12,000 a year is applied automatically for full-time students. King's also has low-residency MFA programmes, which are mostly studied off campus and are not listed below.
