About the university

The Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) was created by the Quebec government on 9 April 1969 and is part of the Université du Québec network. It had 34,845 students in autumn 2025, including 4,994 international students from 94 countries, and offers 378 programmes. The main campus is in downtown Montreal, with four other sites in Lanaudière, Laval, Longueuil and Montérégie-Ouest. Its business school is the École des sciences de la gestion (ESG UQAM).

Teaching is in French. Indian students who speak French well look at UQAM for software engineering, business administration, tourism and hotel management, and project management. You must send a recognised French test result with your application.

UQAM publishes international tuition by programme type rather than by subject: CAD 29,415 a year for any bachelor's in 2026–2027, CAD 26,366 for a DESS (graduate diploma) and about CAD 21,000 in the first year of a course-based master's.

Exemption scholarships for international graduate students

Value: Reduce the higher international tuition; UQAM says doctoral fees end up the same for all students partly because of these awards

Eligibility: International students in graduate programmes; see UQAM's page for conditions.
