About the university

Polytechnique Montréal, founded in 1873, is an engineering school in Montreal and one of Canada's largest engineering teaching and research institutions. It is affiliated with the Université de Montréal. It offers 12 engineering bachelor's degrees, from computer and software engineering to aerospace, biomedical, civil and mining, plus DESS diplomas, master's degrees and doctorates.

All teaching is in French. Indian applicants without French-medium schooling must show French at B2 level (for example DELF B2 or TCF Canada 400 in each skill) before their file is assessed. Bachelor's degrees include a compulsory four-month internship after two years. Polytechnique says more than a quarter of its students come from abroad.

International tuition for a bachelor's year is about CA$32,990 in 2026-27. Graduate fees were published for 2024-25 at CA$996 per credit for DESS and professional master's programmes. Work-permit rules are set by IRCC; see our Canada guide.

    Admission requirements

    Undergraduate

    • Applications with secondary studies outside Quebec and France, such as Indian Class 12, are assessed case by case. Polytechnique does not publish a grade threshold for Indian students.
    • French language requirements are checked first; a file without a valid French test result is not assessed and conditional admission is not possible.
    • Deadlines for international applicants: 1 February for the autumn term and 1 June for the winter term. A decision takes about eight weeks after the file is complete.

    Postgraduate

    • DESS, professional master's and research master's programmes need a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field. Graduate teaching is also in French.
    • International fees (2024-25): CA$996 per credit, so about CA$29,875 for a 30-credit DESS and CA$44,810 for a 45-credit professional master's.

    Documents
