About the university

Northeastern University is a private US university that runs graduate campuses in downtown Vancouver and in Toronto. In Canada it offers only master's degrees, mostly in computer science, information systems, data, analytics, applied AI, project management and life-science fields. Many programmes include a paid co-op of four to eight months, which is the main reason students choose it.

Indian students mainly apply for the MS in Computer Science, the Align MSCS (for people without a CS degree) and the MS in Information Systems in Vancouver, and for MPS Analytics, MPS Applied AI and MS Project Management in Toronto. It is expensive: estimated international tuition is about CA$47,000–60,000 for a whole programme in 2026-27, and the 25–50% scholarships on its pages are for domestic students only.

      Admission requirements

      Undergraduate

      • Northeastern does not offer undergraduate programmes at its Canadian campuses.

      Postgraduate

      • A bachelor's degree is required. The programme pages we opened do not state a minimum percentage or say whether three-year Indian degrees are accepted, so check with admissions.
      • College of Professional Studies programmes (Analytics, Applied AI, Project Management, Informatics) ask for a statement of purpose (500–1,000 words), a resume, transcripts and two letters of recommendation.
      • The Align MSCS is for graduates from any field who want to move into computer science.
      • Apply by 1 June for Fall. Northeastern advises applying for the study permit 3–4 months before the start date.

      Accommodation and living costs

      The Canadian campuses' pages we opened do not list student housing or rates, so plan to rent privately in Vancouver or Toronto. Both are expensive rental markets.

      Campus and location

      Northeastern has two Canadian campuses, both city-centre graduate campuses.

      • Vancouver campus in downtown Vancouver: computer science, information systems, data, digital media and health informatics.
      • Toronto campus: analytics, applied AI, project management, informatics, information systems, biotechnology and regulatory affairs.
      • An online Align MSCS for Canada is run from the Vancouver campus.
      • Students must hold comprehensive health insurance; travel insurance is not enough.

      Careers and graduate outcomes

      How much does Northeastern cost in Canada?

      Northeastern charges per credit. Its 2026-27 estimates for international students include CA$51,767 for the MS in Computer Science and CA$52,681 for MPS Analytics or MPS Applied AI, for the whole programme. Fees are extra.

      Are there scholarships for Indian students?

      The 25–50% scholarships shown on Northeastern's Canadian programme pages are for domestic (Canadian) students only. We found no published scholarship for international students.

      What IELTS score do I need?

      IELTS 6.5 for College of Professional Studies programmes such as Analytics, Applied AI and Project Management. Check Khoury and Engineering programmes with admissions.

      When are the intakes?

      Fall and Spring. International applicants should apply by 1 June for Fall, and by 1 November (Vancouver) or 4 September (Toronto) for Spring.
