About the university
Nipissing University is a public, primarily undergraduate university in North Bay, Ontario. It became an independent university in 1992 and grew out of a teachers' college, so it is best known for teacher education. It also calls itself proportionally the most nursing-intensive university in Ontario. Classes are small, with an average of about 35 students.
Indian students mostly look at its two-year post-baccalaureate diplomas, such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Applications and Business Administration, and at the BSc in Computer Science or Data Science and the co-op BBA. Admission requirements
Undergraduate
- International applicants must meet the university-entry requirements of their home country plus programme prerequisites. Nipissing does not publish a Class 12 percentage for Indian boards; ask internationaladmiss@nipissingu.ca.
- You can apply to up to two programmes through the Nipissing University International Application.
Postgraduate
- Post-baccalaureate diplomas need an undergraduate degree in any discipline; the AI and Machine Learning diploma also expects some programming or STEM background.
- Master's programmes need a four-year undergraduate degree or equivalent with at least B standing, two academic references, a resume and a statement of interest.
- Transcripts from outside Canada and the US need a WES evaluation for graduate applications.

Nipissing has suite-style residences (Chancellors, Governors and Founders House) and a townhouse complex on the North Bay campus. Meal plans are optional and charged separately.

Campus and location
Nipissing has one main campus in North Bay, Ontario, set in forest between Lake Nipissing and Trout Lake.

- About 3.5 hours by road from Toronto and 4 hours from Ottawa.
- A full-time student card works as a city bus pass (fee included in your bill).

FAQs
How much does Nipissing cost for an Indian student?
Undergraduate tuition is CA$28,560 for a 30-credit year in 2026/27, or about CA$31,393 with ancillary fees, insurance, UHIP and a bus pass. Post-baccalaureate diplomas (other than business) cost CA$1,190 a credit.
When can I start?
Most programmes take students in Fall (September) and Winter (January). Some undergraduate programmes also have a Spring/Summer intake.
What IELTS score do I need?
IELTS 6.5 with no band below 6.0 for undergraduate and post-baccalaureate study. Graduate and BEd programmes need no band below 6.5, and Nursing needs 7.0.
Are there scholarships for international students?
Yes. Entrance scholarships are automatic for first-year degree students with 80% or more who apply by 1 April, from CA$1,000 a year up to the domestic tuition rate for 95%+.
