About the university

Lambton College is a public college in Sarnia, Ontario, serving its community since 1967. Sarnia sits on the US border opposite Port Huron, Michigan, at the southern tip of Lake Huron, and is home to a large petrochemical and energy industry. Lambton also runs a Centre for Graduate Studies in Ottawa.

Lambton is a college, not a university. It focuses on applied diplomas and one- and two-year Ontario graduate certificates with co-op terms, in fields such as artificial intelligence, supply chain management, occupational health and safety, water treatment and electrical engineering technology.

Lambton was one of the most popular Ontario colleges with Indian students until 2024. Since then, federal study permit caps and new Post-Graduation Work Permit rules have led it to close many international intakes. When we checked, only a handful of programmes (such as AI and Machine Learning, Supply Chain Management and Agri-Business Management) had open intakes. Always confirm the intake is open before you apply.

Sarnia is a small city, so living costs are lower than in Toronto, but there are fewer part-time jobs. A new on-campus residence is due to open in Fall 2027.

    Admission requirements

    Undergraduate

    • Diplomas: Class 12 equivalent to the Ontario Secondary School Diploma, with Grade 12 English; technology programmes also need Grade 12 (or Grade 11) Mathematics, and some recommend Physics or Chemistry.
    • Foreign education may need to be assessed by ICAS or WES for some programmes.
    • Admission is competitive and higher English scores get priority.

    Postgraduate

    • Ontario graduate certificates need a university degree (some accept a college diploma or advanced diploma); some name the field, such as engineering or health sciences for Occupational Health & Safety Management.
    • Co-op in two-year graduate certificates needs a GPA of 2.8 or more; otherwise you take a work-integrated learning project for an extra CAD 2,100.
    • A deposit equal to first-term tuition secures your seat, and every new study permit application needs a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL).

    Documents

    • Copy of passport
    • Notarised academic transcripts (Class 10, Class 12 and degree mark sheets)
    • Notarised degree or diploma certificates
    • English test score (taken within the last two years)
    • For the study permit: Letter of Acceptance, Provincial Attestation Letter, proof of tuition payment, financial documents and a statement of purpose

    Careers and graduate outcomes

Most of Lambton's two-year graduate certificates and many diplomas include a co-op term, which gives Canadian work experience. Co-op is not guaranteed. Lambton's programme pages state that IRCC alone decides PGWP eligibility; see our Canada guide for current rules.
