About Institut national de la recherche scientifique

INRS (Institut national de la recherche scientifique) is a public research university founded by the Government of Québec in 1969 and part of the Université du Québec network. It teaches only at graduate level: research master's, professional master's and PhDs, delivered through five research centres in water and environment, health and biotechnology, energy, materials and telecommunications, urban studies and rural studies. Students join research teams from the start, and most research programmes need a supervisor before you apply.

French is INRS's official language, but its language policy lets applicants without French in on English B2 (IELTS 5.5, TOEFL 72 or PTE 59), and INRS offers French courses. Indian students mostly look at INRS for funded research master's and PhDs in telecommunications, energy and materials, microbiology and water sciences. PhD students automatically receive a bursary covering the higher international fee.
