About the university
HEC Montréal is the business school affiliated with Université de Montréal. It has about 14,500 students, a quarter of them international, and holds AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA accreditation. Most teaching is in French, but eight master's programmes are taught in English, and the one-year full-time MBA runs in both English and French.
Indian students mostly look at the English-taught MSc programmes: Data Science and Business Analytics, Finance, Financial Engineering, International Business, Operations and Supply Chain Management, User Experience and Applied Financial Economics. Each is 45 credits over 16 to 24 months, with a thesis or supervised-project stream. The bachelor's (BBA) is taught in French or in a bilingual French-English stream, so it suits only students with good French.

Admission requirements
Undergraduate
- The BBA is taught in French or in a bilingual French-English stream. Applicants from outside the Quebec system are offered a preparatory (transitional) year before the BBA.
- Proof of French is needed for French-language programmes, for example 60 university credits in French or an approved French test.
Postgraduate
- MSc: a state-recognised bachelor's degree of at least 3 years (180 ECTS or equivalent) that gives access to a master's in your home country, with an average of 12/20 or equivalent (GPA 3.0/4.3 for Canadian degrees). A 3-year Indian degree can qualify under this rule.
- MSc Data Science and Business Analytics gives priority to engineering, computer science, mathematics, statistics, finance and other quantitative backgrounds; a preparatory mathematics course may be required.
- International application deadlines for the MSc Data Science and Business Analytics: 1 February (Fall) and 1 June (Winter).

Accommodation and living costs
HEC Montréal's pages we checked do not publish housing costs, so check its student services pages before budgeting. Health insurance is mandatory for international students and is not included in tuition.

Can I study at HEC Montréal in English?
Yes, at master's level. Eight master's programmes are taught in English, including MSc Data Science and Business Analytics, Finance and International Business, and the full-time MBA has an English stream. The BBA needs French.
How much does an MSc at HEC Montréal cost?
At the international rate for Fall 2026/Winter 2027, the 45-credit supervised-project MSc comes to about CAD 38,950 with institutional fees (HEC rounds it to CAD 39,000), and the thesis stream about CAD 34,500. Health insurance is extra.
Is a three-year Indian bachelor's degree accepted?
For the MSc, HEC asks for a state-recognised degree of at least three years (180 ECTS or equivalent) that gives access to a master's at home, with an average of 12/20 or equivalent.
Is Duolingo accepted?
Duolingo is not on HEC's list of English tests. Use IELTS Academic, TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, TOEIC or Cambridge.
