About the university
The University of Tasmania (UTAS) is a public university with its main campuses in Hobart and Launceston on the island state of Tasmania. It is ranked joint 277th in the world by Times Higher Education for 2027, and 31% of its students are international.
UTAS teaches business, accounting, IT, engineering, nursing and health, among many other fields. It also runs nursing at a Sydney campus and a Melbourne study centre for some international students.
Indian students look at UTAS for its ranking and fees: most 2027 bachelor's and master's courses on this page cost A$38,950 to A$43,950 a year. Its automatic 30% Tasmanian International Merit Scholarship can bring that down a lot for students with strong marks.
Tasmania is a regional area, which can mean extra post-study work time (see our Australia guide), and its cities are smaller and quieter than mainland capitals.
