About the university
The University of Queensland was established in 1909 as the state's first university. It is a member of the Group of Eight and is ranked =40th in the world by QS and =73rd by Times Higher Education in 2027. UQ is known for life sciences, biotechnology, environmental science, engineering, business and health; the Gardasil cervical cancer vaccine technology was developed by UQ researchers.
Most students study at St Lucia, a large riverside campus about 7 kilometres from Brisbane's city centre, known for its sandstone Great Court and jacaranda trees. The Gatton campus, west of Brisbane, focuses on agriculture, animal and veterinary science, and Herston hosts medicine and health next to Queensland's largest hospital.
Brisbane is a warm, growing city that is usually cheaper than Sydney and Melbourne, and it will host the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, which is driving investment in construction, transport and services. It has a sizeable Indian community and a relaxed, outdoor lifestyle.
For Indian students, UQ's master's degrees in IT, computer science, data science, engineering and business all carry the same 2027 tuition of about A$60,952 a year, which makes comparison simple. The UQ International Excellence Scholarship gives 25% off tuition to selected high-achieving applicants, assessed automatically when you apply.
