Overview
East European University (EEU) is a private university in Tbilisi. It received its authorisation from Georgia's education ministry in 2012 and has two campuses in the city. Its Faculty of Healthcare Sciences has taught an English-language Medical Doctor (MD) programme since 2017.
The MD lasts six years and carries 360 ECTS credits. Clinical rotations start in year 4, and the sixth year is a 12-month internship. EEU names its own university hospital, 'Ghia Guli' (Open Heart), and says it works with more than 20 partner hospitals. Applicants need English at B2 level.
EEU is a private university, so the December 2025 halt on new foreign admissions at state universities does not apply to it directly. Its MD page lists the tuition as USD 6,000. Its FMGE results in 2024 were weaker than the Georgian average, from a small number of graduates, so ask the university how it prepares students for the FMGE.

Fee structure
| Tuition (USD) | Hostel (USD) | Approx. in rupees | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Each year (Years 1–6)Tuition is the figure on EEU's MD page (it does not say 'per year'). Accommodation: EEU's visa and accommodation page has listed a shared-room package of about USD 2,500 a year with meals and utilities; confirm the current price. | US$6,000 | US$2,500 | ≈ ₹7.8 lakh |
| Estimated total (6 years) | US$51,000 | ≈ ₹46.9 lakh | |
EEU's MD page lists tuition of USD 6,000 but does not state whether this is per year; given the six-year length, we read it as an annual fee. Confirm it in writing. EEU also lists a USD 500 annual grant for international students (stated for 2024–25 and 2025–26), which would bring the net fee to about USD 5,500 if it continues. Accommodation, food, visas and insurance are extra. Approximate exchange rates (based on ECB reference rates, March 2026). Actual rates on your payment date will differ.

Recognition and accreditation
- World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS)Listed as East European University Faculty of Healthcare Sciences, school ID F0004928. Instruction started in 2017.
- National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement (NCEQE), GeorgiaWDOMS records the MD programme as accredited by the NCEQE on 3 July 2017, and EEU states that the programme is NCEQE-accredited. The NCEQE is recognised by the WFME. Check the current status with the NCEQE.
- ECFMG (USA)WDOMS shows students and graduates from 2020 onwards as eligible to apply for ECFMG certification.
- National Medical Commission (NMC), IndiaThe NMC does not approve foreign universities. Each graduate must meet the FMGL Regulations, 2021. In its reply to a grievance dated 24 September 2026, the NMC said Georgian 'junior doctor' status meets its licence rule (Regulation 4(b)) only if it legally allows practice at the required level. No NMC notice we found names EEU.
NMC eligibility depends on you, not only the university
Teaching hospitals
- EEU University Hospital 'Ghia Guli' (Open Heart)
- More than 20 partner hospitals in Tbilisi (ask EEU for the current list and which years use them)
Hostel and campus life
EEU has two campuses in Tbilisi, on Enukidze Street and Putkaradze Street. The university lists services for international students, such as legal help with residence permits, health insurance and free Georgian classes. Its website does not publish hostel details, so plan to rent a shared flat near your campus or hospital. Tbilisi has plenty of Indian restaurants and grocery shops. Patients speak Georgian, so the free language classes are worth taking from the first year.

About Tbilisi
Tbilisi is Georgia's capital, with about 1.4 million people. It runs along the Mtkvari river, with an old town, parks, hills and a cable car. Summers are hot and winters are cold. The metro, buses and app taxis are cheap. There are daily direct flights from Delhi, and India has a resident embassy in Tbilisi. Students should keep away from political protests, which have been frequent in the city centre.
Ranking
EEU is not in the QS World University Rankings or the THE World University Rankings, and we found no other major global ranking for it.
Scholarships
EEU lists an International Student Scholarship of USD 500 a year for international students on English-taught programmes (stated for 2024–25 and 2025–26), and up to USD 100 of help with registration and NCEQE recognition costs. Ask whether these apply to your intake and get the terms in writing.

FAQs
Is East European University admitting Indian students?
EEU is private, so the halt on new foreign students at state universities does not apply to it directly. Georgia added new rules for foreign students in 2026, so confirm the intake and requirements with EEU in writing.
What is the fee at EEU?
EEU's MD page lists USD 6,000, which we read as a yearly fee. A USD 500 grant for international students has been offered in recent years. Ask for a written six-year fee schedule.
How did EEU graduates do in the FMGE?
Careers360, citing NBEMS data, reports that 14 of 61 EEU graduates passed the FMGE in 2024, about 23%. That is below the Georgia average of about 36%, though the group is small. Ask the university what FMGE support it offers.
Is the internship part of the course?
Yes. EEU says year 6 is a 12-month internship. The NMC's FAQ treats the foreign internship as separate from the course, so ask EEU for a written breakdown of course months and internship months.
Does EEU provide a hostel?
EEU's website does not publish hostel details. Plan for a shared private flat unless the university confirms a room and price in writing.
Is an EEU degree valid in India?
The NMC does not approve foreign universities. You must meet every condition of the FMGL Regulations, 2021, including the licence rule in Georgia, then pass the FMGE and complete a 12-month internship in India.
